Lo! in thine honest eyes I read

Lo! in thine honest eyes I read
The auspicious beacon that shall lead,
After long sailing in deep seas,
To quiet havens in June ease.
Thy voice sings like an inland bird
First by the seaworn sailor heard;
And like road sheltered from life's sea
Thine honest heart is unto me.
--Robert Louis Stevenson

  1. I live in RLS country, but that lighthouse seems to be from my former home, Maine. I am curious -- whee DOES it come from?

  2. RLS country-how wonderful! The lighthouse is on the Oregon coast, a most beautiful place. Thank you for writing, and may God bless you.

  3. I love the rhythm of those words-so old, they're never used anymore. Quite a pity, really, when you read something like this.

  4. Thank you, Oddyoddyo13. Yes, RLS was a very special poet and a very special man. There was so much of the child in him, and his poems are so beautifully evocative of many wonderful subjects. I will publish more of them before long! Thank you for writing, and may God bless you.
